Third place at the Central and...
The student team from the Faculty of Law in Zagreb has won the third place at the Central and Eastern European Moot Competition , held last weekend at the IUC Dubrovnik .  Eighteen teams from various law faculties in Central and Eastern Europe participated in the competition. The students representing our Faculty were Lea Blažević, Grgur Plavec, Alix Uzelac Vedriš, and Karlo Žalac.
International student conference...
International Student Conference "Current State and Upcoming Challenges of Legal Theory and Philosophy of Law, 2023" took place on May 5th, 2023, in a hybrid form at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb. The Conference was organized by the Croatian Association for Legal and Social Philosophy and the Theory of Law and the State (CALSP), with the support of Zagreb Faculty of Law. Its aim was to bring together young researchers in the field of legal theory and philosophy of law, as well as those employing both doctrinal and empirical approaches to law with a strong philosophical and conceptual content.
Programme in European Private Law for...
Faculty of Law University of Zagreb hosted from 23 to 27 January 2023 the PEPP (Programme in European Private Law for Postgraduates - http://www.pepp-home.eu/ ) during which doctoral candidates from 8 countries from prestigious universities such as universities in Münster, Leuven, Valencia, Cambridge, Bonn, Katowice, Maribor, Genova, Zagreb, and the Bucerius Law School, as well as Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, attended lectures in private law, organised by the Chair of Civil Law. Furthermore, the doctoral candidates had a rich social programme within which they toured Zagreb and Zagreb City Museum, visited the Croatian National Bank and even had an opportunity to practice salsa dance! The programme shall continue in March at the University of Leuven, whereas the programme shall end in June at the University of Genova.

In an event organised by the Faculty of Law, University of Zagreb and in cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Croatia, a guest lecture was given by His Excellency Mr. Henk Voskamp, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Croatia, entitled Soft Power in a Harsh Reality: The EU and the Global Threat to the Rules-Based Order . This is the second guest lecture in a series of lectures on Law, Society and Democratic Public Governance . This guest lecture was part of the introduction to the working visit of a delegation from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, which will take place next week at the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, as part of a UNIC project coordinated by the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and, at the level of the University of Zagreb, by the Faculty of Law in Zagreb.

The European continent is once again ravaged by war. The destruction is incalculable, the loss of human lives and displacement is great and tragic. This is a war that has violated fundamental international norms, prohibiting the threat of force and the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. The Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb condemns the military activities of the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine and expresses solidarity with the people of Ukraine and all those affected by this aggression. As a community of legal scholars and scholars of other related disciplines, we are aware of the importance of the right of all nations and individuals to security and the importance of the rule of law. We are committed to ending the aggression and preserving all human life.
Conference "What comes next?...
Today's hybrid conference on What comes next? - Croatian - French Discussion on the Priorities of the French EU Presidency , organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb and in cooperation with the Embassy of the French Republic in the Republic of Croatia, was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb, Prof. Dr. Ivan Koprić, emphasizing that the priorities of the French presidency are connected to Croatia's strategic goals, along with European and global long-term challenges. Moreover, he emphasized all of the priorities that will be discussed in four panel discussions from the French, Croatian, European and global perspective. Additionally, he thanked all the speakers from France and Croatia, the panel moderators, and the large number of participants who followed the conference live and online, noting that such initiatives are crucial, both for the international cooperation of our Faculty, and for stimulating intellectual debates on some of the most pressing global challenges.
Welcome Day
Today is the second working day for our foreign students who will spend the summer semester at the Faculty of Law as part of the Erasmus+ program and other bilateral exchange programs. On the occasion of their arrival on Friday, February 18, 2022, organized by the International Mobility Office of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb, a Welcome Day was held for all incoming foreign students. It is a group of 40 new exchange students, who will attend classes together with 11 students more who have prolonged their exchange from the winter semester. Given the circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic, this is a very encouraging number.

Welcome Day for international...
The International Mobility Office of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb organized Welcome Day for international students on Thursday, 30th of September 2021 in the Faculty building in the Upper Town, Ćirilometodska street. The Faculty is hosting 55 international exchange students from 13 different European countries this winter semester, which is an encouraging number given the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University of Zagreb officially celebrated its 350th anniversary with a celebration that took place on November 3, 2019 at the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall. Many prominent members of the academic community, dignitaries and top state officials attended the ceremony. The President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović, officially presented the dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Igor Gliha, PhD, with the Charter of the Republic of Croatia to commemorate more than one hundred years of existence of the Faculty of Law in Zagreb.

In 2018 the  book of great significance for legal practice award was awarded to the book titled "Consumer Protection Against Irregular Contractual Terms - Principles and Standards of Protection in European Union Court Decisions" by full professor at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Law Tatjana Josipović, Ph.D. The nomination was submitted by "Narodne novine", the publisher of the book. Professor Tatjana Josipović received the award from judge Damir Kontrec.
Professor Nina Vajić awarded for...
Professor Nina Vajić, a retired professor at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Law and judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strassbourg in the period from 1998 to 2012, received the highest award of the Jadranko Crnić Foundation - Jadranko Crnić Award for lifelong contribution and outstanding achievements in the legal profession and promotion of the rule of law in the Republic of Croatia. The nomination for the award was submitted by the Croatian Association of Women in the legal profession.

Our colleague professor Tamara Perišin was appointed as judge of the General Court of the European Union for the period from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2025. The General Court is one of the two courts constituting the Court of Justice of the European Union, together with the Court of Justice itself. It is the court of first instance for the majority of decisions taken by the Commission and other EU institutions and bodies, in all areas where the European Union holds competences.
Silver Medal for "Capella...
"Capella juris", the choir of the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb,  received a silver medal with a total of 88.7 points in the category of classical choirs with a traditional repertoire at the 5th Croatian Traditional Vocal Music Competition held on May 11, 2019 at the Concert and Congress Hall Vatroslav Lisinski.

Students Manuel Kralj, Dominik Kranjčec, Anamarija Vlašić and Dominik Žugaj represented the University of Zagreb Faculty of Law at the the Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in the field of International Commercial Arbitration, held from 12 - 18 April in Vienna. In a competition of 372 teams, our students were among the top 30 teams that won the honourable mention for Claimant.

Head of the Chair of Criminal Law Professor Davor Derenčinović, PhD was elected president of the Group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings (GRETA) at the Group’s 34th plenary held from 18 to 22 March 2019 in Strasbourg.  GRETA comprises leading experts coming from the countries signatories to the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings.  The mandate of GRETA members runs four years, while the President and the Vice-Presidents are elected for a mandate of two years. 
University of Zagreb Faculty of Law...
On 23 November 2018 in Strasbourg, the University of Zagreb Faculty of Law team of students -  Karlo Brekalo, Nika Gavrilović, Mirta Kuštan, Martina Muža, Lana Radišić and Josipa Verović -  won the finals of the 6th Trans-European held at the European Court of Human Rights. The competition took place before three judges of the European Court of Human Rights. The University of Zagreb Faculty of Law team competed against the winners of the regional competition among 12 Nordic teams – the Danish Lannung team from Copenhagen.
